IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MEAT

MOTHER NATURE MATCHED THE NUTRIENTS IN WHOLE FOWL, FISH AND GAME TO PERFECTLY MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR DOG.

Modern dogs are built like their ancestors and we believe they should eat like them.

How do you know if your dog’s food is Biologically Appropriate? It’s simple, just answer the three meat questions.

  • HOW MUCH MEAT?

ACANA Puppy & Junior is loaded with 70% meat — up to twice as much as most pet specialty dog foods.
  • HOW MUCH FRESH MEAT?

1/3 of the meat in ACANA is FRESH, supplying essential nutrients in their most nourishing form, and 2/3 are dried or oils to provide a rich, natural source of protein.
  • HOW MANY MEATS?

ACANA Dog foods feature three fresh meats in WholePrey ratios that include meat, organs, and cartilage or bone to supply nutrients naturally and completely.

    • Free-run chicken – meat, liver, heart, kidney, and cartilage or bone, fresh from prairie farms.
    • Cage-free eggs – whole and fresh from prairie farms.
    • Wild-caught flounder – whole and fresh from North Vancouver Island.

In nature there are no synthetic supplements, and dogs and wolves derive their nutritional needs by consuming prey animals; muscle meat provides protein; liver, kidney, and tripe supply vitamins and minerals; and cartilage or bone deliver calcium and phosphorus.

DESIGNED FOR CARNIVORES

They might look different, but your puppy shares his anatomy with the grey wolf – which means he’s evolved as a carnivore and adapted for a diet rich in meat, protein, and fat.

Based on this biological fact, and to produce a nutritional analysis that mirrors the diet Mother Nature would provide for your puppy, ACANA features richly nourishing proteins and fats, while limiting unwanted and synthetic ingredients.

YOUR PUPPY IS SPECIAL

ACANA benefits puppies of every breed and size. Just like you, your puppy is a unique individual with feeding requirements that vary with environment, age, and activity.

The table below provides a starting point, to be adjusted as needed to maintain optimum weight and peak conditioning. We suggest monitoring your puppy’s weight and adjusting rations as needed. We recommend feeding twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available.

† Use a standard 250ml/120g measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

ACANA Puppy & Junior is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.

CALORIE DISTRIBUTION

Unique compared to conventional foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates, promoting your puppy’s peak health and development.

Metabolizable Energy is 3660 kcal/kg (439 kcal per 250ml/120g cup), with 32% from protein, 22% from fruits and vegetables, and 46% from fat.

BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE

MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR PUPPY’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.

The grey wolf is ancestor to all dogs. And while years of breeding have produced hundreds of ‘different-looking wolves’, the internal workings of modern puppies and their wolf cousins remain unchanged, so it’s no surprise that their dietary needs remain the same too.

Our award-winning Biologically Appropriate philosophy is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness, and variety of meat that puppies have evolved to eat, while limiting synthetic ingredients that don’t belong in your puppy’s natural diet.

  • RICH IN MEAT (70%)

Your puppy is biologically adapted for a diet rich in meat. That’s why we loaded ACANA Puppy & Junior with 70% meat, including free-run chicken, wild-caught flounder, and cage-free eggs sourced from regional farms deemed fit for human consumption.

Compare to conventional puppy foods which often contain very little meat, and seldom from the human consumption chain.

  • HIGH FRESH MEAT INCLUSIONS (1/3)

Fresh meats are in their most natural and nourishing form. That’s why 1/3 of the poultry, fish, and eggs in ACANA are authentically fresh and loaded with goodness and taste, and the other 2/3 are dried to provide a rich, natural source of meat protein. All animals deemed fit for human consumption — a rarity among today’s pet food makers.

Compare to conventional dog foods which seldom contain authentically fresh meats.

  • A VARIETY OF WHOLE MEATS (3)

In nature, dogs benefit from an assortment of prey animals. That’s why ACANA features a diversity of free-run chicken, cage-free eggs, and whole fish, all in richly nourishing WholePrey ratios of meat, organs, and cartilage or bone that mimic the natural diet, eliminating the long lists of synthetic additives in conventional dog foods.

Compare to conventional dog foods which feature one or two meats, seldom in WholePrey ratios, and feature long lists of synthetic additives.

  • RICH IN MEAT PROTEIN (33%)

ACANA derives its rich protein content from quality animal ingredients, supporting lean muscle mass and nourishing your dog according to his evolutionary needs.

Compare to conventional dog foods which are either typically low in protein (and high in carbohydrates) or use inappropriate plant protein concentrates to elevate their protein claims.

  • Your dog’s natural diet contains very few carbohydrates, which are recognized as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes. That’s why ACANA limits carbs (such as rice, potato and tapioca) and replaces them with farm-fresh vegetables and fruit.

Compare to conventional dog foods which often exceed 50% carbohydrates, and feature high-glycemic ingredients.

At Champion Petfoods, our vision is to be trusted by Pet Lovers everywhere, and that means producing dog and cat foods and treats of exceptional quality. Whenever we enhance our diets we use our Biologically Appropriate mandate to guide us. Recent enhancements to our ACANA Singles foods included an increase in meat content from 50% to 60%. While an increase in meat is usually a good thing, trying to balance the nutrients in a food that relies on one animal source can be challenging. After adding more fish to our ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel food, we were not satisfied with the new vitamin and mineral balance in the enhanced food. Rather than keeping one ACANA Singles food at 50% and moving the other foods to 60%, we’ve decided to discontinue ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel effective immediately.
