Dogs are not only capable of eating the foods of their ancestors, they actually require it for peak health.
Loaded with nourishing protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, ACANA Wild Coast features sustainable fish, wild-caught off North Vancouver Island’s cold Pacific waters and whisked to our kitchen FRESH and WHOLE, so they’re bursting with goodness and taste.
Prepared in our award-winning NorthStar Kitchen with fresh, trusted, and regional ingredients, we think you’ll love ACANA. More importantly, we think your dog will too!
1/3 of the fish in ACANA is FRESH, supplying essential nutrients in their most nourishing form, and 2/3 are dried or oils to provide a concentrated, natural source of protein.
ACANA Wild Coast features three fresh fish in WholePrey ratios that include meat, organs, and cartilage or bone to supply nutrients naturally and completely.
Pacific herring – whole and fresh from Canada’s North Pacific.
Arrowtooth flounder – whole and fresh from Canada’s North Pacific.
Pacific hake – whole and fresh from Canada’s North Pacific.
In nature there are no synthetic supplements, and dogs and wolves derive their nutritional needs by consuming whole prey animals; muscle meat provides protein; liver, kidney, and tripe supply vitamins and minerals; and cartilage and bone deliver calcium and phosphorus.
ONLY 5 SUPPLEMENTS | NATURAL NUTRIENTS
ACANA Wild Coast’s rich fish and WholePrey inclusions supply nutrients in the most natural way possible, limiting supplementation to vitamins B5 and E, choline, zinc, and copper.
CANADA’S BEST AND FRESHEST INGREDIENTS
ACANA Wild Coast features an unmatched variety of regional fish that are wild-caught by people we know and trust, deemed fit for human consumption, and then delivered to our award-winning kitchen fresh and whole.
*Contains mixed tocopherols (a tocopherol rich extract of natural origin- Vitamin E and Rosemary Oil). Also contains the probiotic Enterococcus faecium.
DESIGNED FOR CARNIVORES
They might look different, but your dog shares his anatomy with the grey wolf – which means he’s evolved as a carnivore and adapted for a diet rich in meat, protein, and fat.
Based on this biological fact, and to produce a nutritional analysis that mirrors the diet Mother Nature would provide for your dog, ACANA features richly nourishing proteins and fats.
ACANA benefits dogs of all breeds. Just like you, your dog is unique with feeding requirements that vary with environment, age, and activity.
The table below provides a starting point, to be adjusted as needed to maintain optimum weight and peak conditioning. We suggest monitoring your dog’s weight and adjusting portions as needed. We recommend feeding twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available.
† Use a standard 250ml/120g measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.
ACANA Wild Coast is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.
CALORIE DISTRIBUTION
Unique compared to conventional foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates.
Metabolizable Energy is 3493 kcal/kg (419 kcal per 250ml/120g cup), with 30% from protein, 30% from vegetables and fruits, and 40% from fat.
BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE
MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR DOG’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.
The grey wolf is the ancestor to all dogs. And while years of breeding has produced hundreds of ‘different-looking wolves’, the internal workings of modern dogs and their wolf cousins remain unchanged. So it’s no surprise their dietary needs remain the same too.
Our award-winning Biologically Appropriate philosophy is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness, and variety of meats and fish that dogs have evolved to eat, while limiting synthetic ingredients that don’t belong in a dog’s natural diet.
Your dog is biologically adapted for a diet rich in meat. That’s why we loaded ACANA Wild Coast with 50% sustainable and wild-caught fish, including Pacific herring, arrowtooth flounder, and Pacific hake, all deemed fit for human consumption prior to inclusion in our recipes.
Entirely free of the pea or potato protein concentrates common in today’s conventional dog foods, ACANA derives its rich protein (29%) content from quality animal ingredients, supporting lean muscle mass and nourishing your dog according to his evolutionary needs.
Compare to conventional dog foods which are typically low in protein and meat (and high in carbohydrates) and use ingredients that aren’t deemed fit for human consumption.
We use fresh fish in their most natural and nourishing form. That’s why 1/3 of the fish in ACANA Wild Coast is authentically fresh and loaded with goodness and taste, and 2/3 are dried or oils to provide a concentrated, natural source of protein, supplying essential nutrients and providing the natural flavours and goodness dogs instinctively crave.
Our ingredients are from fish deemed fit for human consumption — a rarity among today’s pet food makers.
Compare to conventional dog foods which seldom contain authentically fresh fish or meats.
In nature, dogs benefit from an assortment of meats and fish. That’s why ACANA Wild Coast features sustainble and wild-caught fish off Vancouver Island – whole Pacific herring, arrowtooth flounder, and Pacific hake – and provides a nourishing diversity of proteins and fats to promote peak health.
Compare to conventional dog foods which feature one or two meats and have long lists of synthetic additives.
In her infinite wisdom, Mother Nature matched the nutrients in whole prey animals to perfectly meet your dog’s needs. Meat provides protein and fat; organs supply vitamins and minerals; and cartilage or bone provide calcium and phosphorus.
Richly nourishing whole fish provides a concentrated source of nutrients naturally, dramatically reducing the need to add synthetic vitamins or supplement to our foods.
Compare to conventional dog foods which often don’t incorporate WholePrey ratios of meat, organs, cartilage, or bone.
Your dog’s natural diet contains very few carbohydrates, which are recognized as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes. That’s why ACANA replaces fast carbohydrates such as corn, rice, tapioca and potato with steel-cut oats, a healthy, low-glycemic grain. Steel-cut oats gradually enter the blood stream, avoiding spikes in blood sugar and decreasing fat storage.
Compare to conventional dog foods which often exceed 50% carbohydrates, and feature high-glycemic ingredients.

At Champion Petfoods, our vision is to be trusted by Pet Lovers everywhere, and that means producing dog and cat foods and treats of exceptional quality. Whenever we enhance our diets we use our Biologically Appropriate mandate to guide us. Recent enhancements to our ACANA Singles foods included an increase in meat content from 50% to 60%. While an increase in meat is usually a good thing, trying to balance the nutrients in a food that relies on one animal source can be challenging. After adding more fish to our ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel food, we were not satisfied with the new vitamin and mineral balance in the enhanced food. Rather than keeping one ACANA Singles food at 50% and moving the other foods to 60%, we’ve decided to discontinue ACANA Singles Wild Mackerel effective immediately.
For a different food diet with only fish protein, we recommend ACANA Freshwater Fish from our Heritage line, or ACANA Wild Atlantic from our Regionals line. We also recommend ORIJEN Six Fish, which features mackerel as one of its ingredients.
